SDRC Selected to Design, Analyze & Prototype a MANET-Based Wireless Backbone
SAN DIEGO, California (11/9/2005) - SDRC (San Diego Research Center, Inc.) has been selected by the Army to design, analyze, and prototype a Mobile AdHoc Network (MANET) -based wireless backbone that will enable the remote monitoring and data acquisition from heterogeneous sensor networks over the vast remote DoD lands and facilities. In addition, it will support cooperation between disparate sensor networks and improve network energy efficiency.
During the program, SDRC will develop and validate the wireless backbone architecture, adapt connectionless network (CN) concepts and algorithms to the specific requirements of the wireless backbone. In addition, the company will integrate environmental energy harvest-aware duty cycling and MAC and routing protocols into the CN framework, design a common software and hardware platform for the backbone nodes, and evaluate the performance of the overall system through analysis and simulations. SDRC will then leverage prior and ongoing research to design and validate the architecture concepts and subsystem technologies.
This Phase 1 SBIR, program, "Self-Organizing, Energy Efficient, Scalable and Cost-Effective Wireless Backbone to Monitor and Administer Large Remote DoD Acreage," was funded at $69,959.
About the SBIR program: The Department of Defense (DoD) Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) and Small Business Technology Transfer (STTR) programs fund a billion dollars each year in early-stage R&D projects at small technology companies - projects that serve a DoD need and have commercial applications. SBIR and STTR funds are awarded competitively and small companies retain the intellectual property rights to technologies they develop under these programs.
About SDRC: SDRC is a wireless technology research and system development company focusing on challenging and important opportunities in government and commercial communications markets.
