Army Selects SDRC Develop a Modeling and Simulation Capability for Directional Communications Systems
SAN DIEGO, California (12/13/2004) - SDRC (San Diego Research Center, Inc.), a leader in wireless network research and system development in the defense sector, will develop and demonstrate a modeling and simulation capability for the Army under a recently awarded Small Business Innovative Research (SBIR) contract. The principal focus of this program is to assess the methods and design tradeoffs for directional communications using focused antenna beams as well as the resulting effect on effective data rates, communications range, Anti-Jam (AJ) and Low Probability of Intercept/Low Probability of Detection (LPI/LPD) performance. The program tasks will focus on architectures applicable to the Army's PM Warfighter Information Network - Tactical (WIN-T).
According to Dr. Bo Ryu, SDRC's Principal Investigator (PI) for the program, "The company's approach promises to help the WIN-T program decision-making process in developing the Army's capacity to use directional networked communications in tactical, RF hostile environments with limited frequency spectrum."
This Small Business Innovative Research (SBIR) Phase 1 program, entitled "Versatile Modeling and Simulation Tool for Directional Networked Communications," is funded at $119,889.
About the SBIR program: The Department of Defense (DoD) Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) and Small Business Technology Transfer (STTR) programs fund a billion dollars each year in early-stage R&D projects at small technology companies - projects that serve a DoD need and have commercial applications. SBIR and STTR funds are awarded competitively and small companies retain the intellectual property rights to technologies they develop under these programs.
About SDRC: SDRC is a wireless technology research and system development company focusing on challenging and important opportunities in government and commercial communications markets.
